Chapter 45 45 Filch
Chapter 45 45. Filch
"They all look down on Squibs!"
Filch's voice was hoarse, with a sense of wanton venting.
"They think people like me are not worthy of being in the wizarding world. Yes! How can someone who can't even cast a spell and is not qualified to hold a wand be called a wizard! Squibs! Squibs! A firecracker that doesn't fire is trash! Trash! Everyone thinks so! Everyone!"
Neville seemed to feel that Filch was very pitiful at this moment, and he said comfortingly.
"But the professors at Hogwarts don't think so."
"That's just because of Dumbledore's face!" He yelled, "I know they actually despise me! Lily Potter never takes the initiative to talk to me! McGonagall has never given me a good face in the past 20 years! Slughorn even wanted to humiliate me on the night when Hogwarts was first attacked. I was locked in the office alone at the time, and I was scared and anxious! He didn't let me out until very late!"
Jon listened to his "accusation" and felt that Lily and McGonagall treated him like this purely because of his attitude towards students, and it had nothing to do with the Squib incident. As for Slughorn. He has always been like that to people who are not outstanding, but he certainly won't take the initiative to humiliate them.
So Jon was more curious about his last sentence.
"You were locked up that night? Who did it? The man hiding in the carriage?"
"Who knew that I couldn't cast the unlocking spell? If that man really thought I was in the way, he would just secretly lock the door! It must be Slughorn! He knew I was a Squib and had no way to open the locked room, so he locked me in the office to embarrass me!"
Filch screamed, as if he had determined this matter and would not listen to any explanation from others.
Jon could only comfort him.
"Don't be sad, Filch, we don't look down on you because of the Squib, and we won't tell anyone about this. We came to ask you just because we suspect that there is something wrong with you not using magic all the time."
"Is there a problem?" Filch bulged his eyes. He was not a good person, but he was not a fool. "Do you think I would do something to let down Hogwarts? Am I crazy? Or are you crazy!"
Ron turned his head away guiltily. He didn't expect that Filch would reveal the matter of the Squib after Jon just said a few words. Now it is impossible for Filch to be an undercover agent.
"Now that we are sure that you are really a Squib, there will definitely be no such suspicion. I am sorry to bother you today."
Jon said in an apologetic voice. He himself did not have any prejudice against Squibs, but he also felt that the administrator had a bad character.
"Is what you just said true?" Filch stared at Jon. He obviously also found that among these four people, this boy was their core. "Don't tell others."
Jon shrugged: "This is your privacy. If you think it should be kept secret, we will keep it confidential."
"Ah, thank you. Thank you." He thanked dryly, obviously not very skilled in saying such words.
Jon and the other four left the office. In the corridor, Ron said dejectedly.
"I didn't expect that he was really a Squib..." But he seemed to be unwilling to give up. He guessed again to prove his idea, "But these are all what he said. Maybe he actually wants to use the Squib incident to cover up his suspicion?"
His guess was a bit too forced. This time even Justin felt that Ron was making a blind guess without basis. At this moment, a sturdy figure happened to walk towards them.
"Hi, Hagrid." Jon greeted Hagrid who was looking for something on the corridor.
Seeing Jon and the others, Hagrid smiled.
"Good morning, Jon."
"Are you looking for Biggie again?"
"Yes, it hasn't been very obedient recently. It always likes to run around in the carriage. I'm afraid it will steal something, so I come in to look for it." Hagrid said with a frown, "Have you seen it?"
Jon shook his head.
"No, if I saw it, I would definitely catch it and send it to you. By the way, we just have something to ask you." In order to make Ron give up completely, Jon said, "Do you know why Filch has not used magic? We are very curious about this."
Neville and the others around him immediately pricked up their ears, and Hagrid's face was obviously surprised after hearing his question. Obviously, he didn't expect him to ask this.
After looking around to make sure there was no one else around, Hagrid bent down and moved closer to Jon and the others.
"You actually found this. Of course I know the reason, but I can't tell you. After all, this is his personal privacy, and he cares about it very much, so even if the professors in the school know about it, no one will talk about it."
This answer said nothing but said everything, which is in line with Hagrid's big mouth. He promised to keep it secret but he really wanted to keep it secret but couldn't.
After separating from Hagrid, Ron was completely speechless, but they only cleared Filch's suspicion after all the trouble they had. There was still no clue about where the intruder hiding in the carriage was.
"Don't think about it. Let the professors solve this matter. We can help them the most by taking care of ourselves."
Neville agreed with Jon's words very much. Ron and Justin finally went back to their dormitories honestly. It seemed that after today's incident, they could be quiet for a while.
After returning to the dormitory, Jon picked up the parchment with spell pronunciation combinations written on it again, but this time he couldn't calm down. A certain sentence he heard in Filch's office kept lingering in his mind.
In the end, he simply stopped trying, but leaned back in his chair and stared at the scenery outside the window that was constantly retreating.
Neville, who was revising his Transfiguration paper, raised his head and looked at him strangely.
"What's wrong?"
Jon shook his head silently and said softly.
"Nothing, just thinking about something, something not so good."
Life after the Christmas holiday did not change much for the little wizards in the carriage. Just as Jon said, as long as they could take care of themselves and not cause trouble to the school, they would be the greatest help to the professors.
Jon also tried all the pronunciation combinations of the levitation spell before February, and finally determined that the pronunciation that was completely opposite to the normal levitation spell was the most suitable spell for him to cast on himself using the ring.
After confirming these, Jon found Slughorn again, wanting to learn from him how to improve the effect of this levitation spell.
Obviously, compared to just reducing weight, increasing jumping power and speed, Jon wanted to be able to fly with his own ability.
