Chapter 371 Military Warrant

"But this will delay the speed of our new fighter aircraft." Ustinov said: "Our front-line aviation urgently needs new fighter aircraft to seize air superiority. The development of fighter aircraft cannot be too slow."

The Ministry of National Defense is very dissatisfied with the slow progress of the T-10 project. However, the Ministry of National Defense also hopes that the Sukhoi Design Bureau can complete the project development and produce a fighter jet with better performance than the F-15.

"If we reverse engineer the F-15, will it speed up the process?" At this moment, Air Force Marshal Kordunov put forward a new idea.

Now we have obtained the F-15 prototype, fully mapped it, and reverse engineered it.

The Soviet Union had done such things before, and the statements of later experts need to be verified, but the Soviet Tu-4 bomber was definitely the result of the reverse engineering of the B-29 bomber.

Now that we have a complete F-15, we should be able to quickly finalize a third-generation aircraft through reverse mapping.

"No." Andrei said, "Marshal Kordunov, we now need a fighter that can completely suppress the performance of the American F-15, not a fighter with similar performance to the F-15. Many technologies of the F-15 are actually outdated for us. For example, our T-10 uses the advanced wing-body fusion structure created by the Central Institute of Fluid Science. Our belly air intake method can greatly improve the high angle of attack performance of the aircraft. Our fighters have surpassed the United States in many aspects. Now, we just need time. Comrade Simonov, how long will it take for the Sukhoi Design Bureau to start over with the existing plan?"

Simonov looked at Andrei with grateful eyes. It can be said that he is extremely grateful to Andrei now. At this time, only he insisted, and everyone was putting pressure on him, but General Andrei stood firmly beside him! Moreover, General Andrei was full of confidence in his own project!

"It will take a year!" Simonov knew that he didn't have any more time. Even if he had to work overtime, even if he had to work day and night, he had to rush to make this plane!

Moreover, Simonov already had a rough outline of the entire plan in his mind.

Compared with existing aircraft, the main thing that has been redesigned is the aerodynamic layout of the aircraft: increasing the wing area, reducing the sweep angle, removing the wing blades, changing the curved wingtips to a square shape and adding missile launch rails, changing the trailing edge flaps and ailerons to a single flaperon and adding computer-controlled leading edge flaps, and changing the speed brake from the bottom of the fuselage to the back speed brake like the F-15. In this way, the overall performance of the aircraft can be greatly improved. Many designs are also inspired by the US F-15, but after our own fighter jets are arranged in this way, the performance will definitely exceed that of the F-15!

In addition to these, there are other improvements. For example, in order to prevent the engine from sucking in debris on the runway, the front landing gear was moved back to between the two air intakes, and a mesh partition was installed in the air intake to prevent debris from being sucked in; the engine compartment was redesigned: the casing was moved from the bottom of the engine to the top, so that the double vertical tail had to be moved to the outside of the two engines, and the tail nozzle was also made adjustable; the above improvements have greatly reduced the cross-sectional area of the aircraft, comprehensively improving the Su-27's maneuverability, speed, and range. Other places such as the nose, tail, cockpit, landing gear, etc. have also been improved accordingly.

In fact, when the model was being selected, there were many alternative options, but the chief designer at the time, Sukhoi, was a bit conservative and chose the current test flight shape. If the selection had been bolder at the time, there would be no need for improvements now.

One year!

"In one year, our improved T-10 prototype will begin flight testing. At the same time, the existing T-10 prototype can also be tested simultaneously. This will greatly speed up the process. After a maximum of two years of flight testing, we will be able to equip our troops with T-10!" Simonov had issued a military order!

In three years, that is to say, by 1981 at the latest, the Su-27 will be put into service in the Soviet Air Defense Forces! This progress will be far higher than the progress in history.

However, Andrei knew that this progress was not perfect. Back then, the American F-15 fighter took only five years to develop, while the Soviet Su-27 took sixteen years. In addition to the duplication caused by the wrong selection, the most troublesome thing was the overweight of the fuselage caused by the backwardness of the electronic equipment. Almost the entire test flight process of the Su-27 was a vicious cycle of continuous weight reduction, strength increase, and overweight. As a result, in the end, the difficult osteomalacia still appeared.

Now, the problem of electronic equipment has been solved! With the ingenuity of the Sukhoi Design Bureau personnel and Simonov's perseverance, it was not difficult to tinker with the brand new Su-27 in three years.

"Okay, then we will wait for three years! If the Su-27 cannot be equipped to the troops after three years, the Sukhoi Design Bureau will have no need to exist." After saying this, Ustinov left with the senior officials.

This is a tough battle that will determine whether the Sukhoi Design Bureau can survive! Seeing that these senior officials have no confidence in their side, Simonov's fighting spirit is constantly erupting.

Andrei did not go with them. Since he was at the Sukhoi Design Bureau this time, he might as well stay a little longer. Besides, Andrei had a pretty good relationship with Simonov. When Andrei had just crossed over, he had already met Simonov, and their communication at that time was very harmonious.

"General Andrei, thank you for your help," Simonov said. Time passed, and in a few years, Andrei had become the commander of the military district. This speed of promotion made everyone envious. However, Simonov knew that with Andrei's merits, he should have such a promotion, and Andrei's vision was also quite accurate and unique.

Like now, Andre's support for his side is not just about the relationship between the two of them, but more importantly because of Andre's vision!

"Three years is a bit tight, isn't it?" Andre said, "The T-10 project is related to our air superiority for the next 20 years. This project must be successfully completed."

"Yes, General Andrei, we can definitely finalize the design of the T-10 project within three years." Simonov said, "If we can't complete it, I am willing to resign and spend the rest of my life in a labor camp in Siberia."
