Chapter 270 Abnormal
The sound of trumpets, drums, and whistles made earth-shaking sounds in the night.
Winterfell seemed to have awakened like a giant, roaring and banging.
The defenders on the wall poured oil on the beacon fire, and the flames swirled up, the hot wind rushed in their faces, and the smoke and ashes stung their eyes.
Behind the high walls, fortresses and towers stood tall, the guards on the walls looked solemn, and the soldiers in the arrow slits and killing holes on the outer walls were nervous and ready to go.
The chase outside the city was still going on.
The black corpses were chasing the breath of blood and death.
The wails of humans came with the biting cold wind and reached the ears of the guards on the 80-foot-high outer wall. It was a hysterical howl of fear, an indescribable wild cry, and a sharp scream of extreme fear.
The sound reached the wall, causing the dogs in the kennels in the city to bark and the crows living in the woods to make noises.
Under the majestic walls of Winterfell, a madman who was getting closer and closer to the walls roared loudly, holding up a child with both hands, and his roar was almost like the howl of a wild beast: "Rickon Stark is here! Rickon Stark!"
His voice was drowned in the noisy noises in the city.
As the blizzard approached, the corpse army following these desperate people could be seen on the walls. At this time, no commander guarding the city would order the gate to be opened for these twenty or so survivors.
Winterfell is protected by two huge granite walls and a moat between them. The outer wall gate is a gate made of oak and steel, followed by a drawbridge controlled by chains, and behind the drawbridge is an inner gate repaired with sharpened log spikes and iron fences.
Originally, the inner gate was also a solid gate made of oak and steel. However, during the War of the Six Kings, the inner city of Winterfell experienced the invasion of the Ironmen and Ramsay Bolton recaptured Winterfell.
Ramsay once ordered the castle to be burned down, captured all the residents in the castle, and carried out a brutal massacre. The inner city gate and fortress of Winterfell were abandoned and dilapidated for a long time, until Roose Bolton settled in Winterfell, and then they were renovated and partially repaired.
It was also a tit-for-tat, and it was precisely because the inner city gate of the castle was dilapidated that most of the fortresses in the inner city were in ruins after burning and waiting to be repaired. So when Aegon opened the outer city gate, when Ramsay found something wrong, he quickly controlled the gate tower of the inner city, rushed into the city and recaptured Winterfell.
The drawbridge and gate of the inner city of the castle now have no ability to defend against the attack of the army.
You know, repairing the castle, even in summer, will take several years.
The dilapidated Winterfell was taken over by the Bolton family for less than a year, and only a few months after the Stark recovery, only the main castle and towers could be moved along the dilapidated and collapsed walls by sufficient manpower to carry out simple cold-proof repairs.
But iron gates and water pipes on the inner wall of the inner city tower are all technical work. It is not easy to find materials and technicians.
So even after Stark took over, even if he repaired from a purely military perspective without considering the manpower consumption, the key defense of Winterfell is now on the outer city wall that remained intact after the burning.
Both the Boltons and the Starks have made repairs, but it is still difficult to restore Winterfell to its pre-war state - Bolton actually spent more time in Winterfell, but their focus of repair was on the collapsed main castle, considering building the facade first and then the interior. After Stark recovered with the help of Aegon, most of the building materials prepared by Bolton were used to build the city wall.
Until now, if someone goes around to the godswood behind the side of the first castle, you can easily see that one side of the first castle of Winterfell still has traces of charred collapse after burning.
In the famous three-acre godswood forest of Winterfell, there are still large areas of charred tree trunks and scorched earth that turned into mud after snow.
The outer wall of Winterfell was built by a northern king in 20 years. At that time, Westeros was still the Seven Kingdoms. The northern king's rule was not stable and was often attacked by many parties. Among them, the wildlings, the iron people and the Bolton family attacked the most. Speaking of which, the rulers of the North have always been fighting these three types of people for thousands of years, which can be regarded as a kind of historical heritage.
(Medieval castles are generally like this. According to the original description, Winterfell occupies a larger area, with a moat and outer walls)
Back to the present, the wights are following closely. The risk of opening the city gate at this time is extremely terrible. Now no commander on the city wall dares to take the responsibility that may cause the wights to flood into the city.
"Rickon Stark!"
Seemingly seeing that the city gate did not respond, all the desperate people outside the city shouted loudly.
"Ricken!" Catelyn, who hurried from the castle to the wall to check the situation, accurately caught Ricken's name from all the noisy voices.
She no longer cared about the worry of being feared, and walked straight to a battlement on the wall and looked out. Outside the city, in front of the dark storm curtain, the fireflies in the hands of the pursued fugitives became dimmer and dimmer, and a few figures were in the front a hundred steps away from the wall, with only a weak torch that seemed to be swallowed by the darkness at any time.
Catelyn listened attentively.
"Ricken!" She was sure that she had not heard wrong, "They are calling Ricken's name! It's Ricken, it must be him! Open the city gate!"
The commander of the wall guards called by the two guards beside Catelyn, Brienne and Harwin, could not understand Catelyn's hoarse voice at all.
"My lady said to open the city gate!" Harwin shouted excitedly, "It's Rickon outside! They are calling Rickon Stark's name!"
"This, this" The commander's face was already pale, and he even turned pale when he heard this.
"He has a trout flag on him! Tell him who I am!" Caitlin heard the sounds outside and could no longer be quiet in her heart. They were still far away and the firelight was weak, so she couldn't see clearly the faces of the refugees, but she was sure that she heard Rickon's name.
This made her feel tight inside, and her chest seemed to be burning with heat.
Harwin loudly announced: "Open the city gates, it is Lady Catelyn of Winterfell who is ordering you!"
"Ah, this, madam, I-" The commander's face was as white as thick milk.
Caitlin continued to order: "Open the door!" She gestured to take off her hood.
"Lady Catelyn Tully orders you to open the door!" Brienne stepped forward and gritted her teeth and said, "Just open a small opening! They come from outside the city, and they must have the information the adults need! We cannot let them die in vain!"
In the end it was Brienne's words that did the trick.
The group of people quickly arrived at the tower where the city gate was located, and ran towards the door with long strides from the city wall.
"Soldiers, prepare torches!" the commander shouted, "open the city gate."
The soldiers in the city gate tower were stunned. For a moment, no one dared to obey orders.
Only here did Brienne discover that the soldiers responsible for guarding the gate were soldiers from the Royce family in the valley, and they were not in the same chain of command as the defenders on the city wall.
The team commander on the city gate tower shouted loudly and asked: "Who are you? Who gave the order? Why do you want to open the door?"
"Lady Catelyn's order!" Harwin answered.
"Is there a warrant for the acting city lord? A flag?"
Caitlin went crazy, lifting the hood on her face, pulling off her scarf, holding her pale hands on the horribly cut neck, and speaking every word, with a ferocious face like a demon: "I said, beat me." , open the city gate! ”
"Hiss~"
By the torchlight of her tower room, Catelyn's appearance and voice could give anyone nightmares.
"Yes, it's Mrs. Caitlin." Most of Royce's men had seen the resurrected Caitlin during the siege of Twin River City. Now that they saw her again, they were still frightened out of their wits. They didn't dare to ask anymore and immediately ordered, "Open City gate!"
Brienne quickly added: "Let the archers in the tower be ready!"
After receiving the order, the guarding soldiers immediately stood up and ran to the doorway of the city gate, pushing the noose chain that controlled the huge castle door latch.
Two strong men walked to the door and pushed open the door.
A harsh creak sounded in the doorway, and a gust of cold wind immediately rushed in through the crack in the door.
"The door is open!" A voiceless shout of surprise came from outside.
But a loud scream was heard from the city wall: "Oops, shoot the arrow! Shoot the arrow!"
The trumpets sounded louder.
And in this moment of chaos.
The leading fugitive had already ran in through the gap in the city gate. As soon as he entered the city, he turned over and fell to the ground, laughing loudly: "I'm saved - haha - I'm saved!"
"Rickon?"
Caitlin came out of the tower door in the doorway and looked at the boy in the arms of the fallen man. The child was wrapped in faded wool and looked like a big ball. His head was hidden in the hood, and only a trace of it could be seen. She has greasy and messy long hair, and her face cannot be seen clearly.
Caitlin stepped forward.
The person who fell to the ground cried out in surprise when he saw her. He hugged the child and rubbed it backwards to avoid it: "The corpse is chasing in!"
Seeing that the other party was about to fight back, Brienne stepped forward quickly.
The snowflakes thrown by the man were stopped by Brienne under the firelight: "It's not a ghost! Is that child Rickon Stark?"
Several more people ran in from the city gate, interrupting the conversation: "They are coming!"
The screams were very close.
But the roar was faster.
As soon as a man ran into the city gate, a pair of black hands touched the crack of the door.
Immediately afterwards, a sudden change occurred.
The owner of the black arm pounced on the guard guard like a vicious dog, biting him with both hands and mouth.
"Ah!" The soldier who was in charge of opening the door was thrown to the ground, shouted and pushed, "Help!"
These soldiers had never come into contact with ghouls, yet they had to step forward to pull people away.
It was too late, but soon, more crazy people with blue eyes and black hands quickly poured into the door.
Finally someone reacted: "It's a corpse! Close the door quickly!"
There was a sudden chaos in the doorway.
Brienne immediately drew her sword and yelled at Harwin: "Protect the lady!" As she said that, she strode forward and with a precise and fierce sword movement, she cut off the biting man in the city with one sword. The head of a ghoul on a door soldier.
But what Brienne could not imagine was that the ghost's head was cut off and rolled away, but its body was still tearing at the soldier.
The torn wool flew away, revealing the lined mail.
The soldier pushed and grabbed the corpse, grabbed the mail, and teleported to the cold black hand that started attacking his head.
"Help!"
Brienne was frightened by this horrifying scene for a moment, but fortunately her subconscious reaction was faster than her thinking. She swung her sword and slashed hard at the headless corpse. The sword made a grinding sound.
The Valyrian steel sword "Oath Keeper" in her hand was so sharp that it actually split the corpse in half, splitting it in half.
And that upper body is still moving!
Brienne was stunned for a moment.
At this time, a figure rushed forward from behind Brienne and pressed the burning torch against the upper body of the corpse. With a sudden burst of flames, the hard black hands softened.
The frightened soldiers hurriedly fought, retreated, stood up, and threw away the undead monster on their bodies.
This soldier can be called a living propagandist for helmets and mail.
The wights first aimed at his abdomen and tried to tear open his stomach. Fortunately, he wore mail inside his coat, which blocked the sudden attack of the wights that caught him off guard. Then, thanks to the steel helmet in the windproof cap, he blocked two heavy blows that were aimed at his head from the cold and powerful black hands of the wights.
"Close the city gate!"
The roar in the doorway shook the sky.
Several ghosts with arrows stuck in their bodies crawled in through the crack of the door with their hands and feet and grabbed the crack of the door.
Brienne vaguely glimpsed behind her, more ghosts were on fire and rushed to the doorway one after another.
After a round of attacks, the soldiers on the city wall finally realized that ordinary arrows and arrows with obsidian arrowheads could not cause damage to these ghosts, so they switched to rockets. But more than a dozen ghosts were still allowed in and chased into the doorway.
They grabbed the edge of the door with a clear goal, which was to stop the city gate from closing.
"Close the gate!"
"Use fire!"
The doorway was now as chaotic as a vegetable market, bustling with people, and the fugitives and soldiers who had escaped were all shouting heartbreakingly.
The doorway was wide, but now there were so many people that they were crowded together, causing trampling.
Brienne couldn't tell what she had stepped on. When she looked down, she saw a black head of a wight, which opened its mouth and bit her boots.
She kicked and tried to shake it off, but couldn't shake it off for a while.
"Fire!"
Someone threw a torch into the doorway, and the flames caught the wight and burned.
Brienne finally kicked off the head of the ghost, and with nausea, she stepped on the head with fear and anger. The boots inlaid with iron blocks were like a hammer, crushing the leader with blue eyes directly.
The blue in the eyes went out, and Brienne was still stomping on the broken skull in panic.
"Push those ghosts out! Close the door!"
The door was in chaos. Soldiers rushed out of the tower and pushed to the door, forming a human wall with the other two gatekeepers. The soldiers reacted quickly, holding their shields and reaching the gap in the door where the ghosts were blocking the way. They set up a shield wall and pushed the bodies out.
Outside the shield wall, the wights attacked the shields like mad dogs. Some of them were still on fire, and they bit desperately, occupying a half-step wide space at the door.
Brienne was tall and could see clearly. The soldiers who were holding shields were using ordinary weapons because of the emergency. Spears and swords pierced through the gaps in the shields, stringing the wights together like candied haws, but those ghosts just wouldn't die and kept attacking.
They were so powerful that they wrestled with the shield soldiers even when their bodies were pierced.
The torch stretched out from behind Brienne, and even Brienne's woolen coat was suddenly burned by the flames.
Suddenly someone rushed to her side: "Hey, big guy, you are tall, use this, quick!"
Brienne turned her head and saw an old soldier directly brought out all the braziers in the tower room.
The situation was urgent and there was no time to think about it. Brienne knew what the old soldier meant, so she immediately put away her sword and took the brazier from him. She walked through the chaotic crowd in the doorway and shouted: "Lower your head!"
The soldiers in the front row lowered their heads subconsciously.
Brienne used both hands to throw the brazier in front of the shield wall.
For a moment, sparks flew and flames rose in front of the doorway.
Since Brienne had come here, there was no reason to retreat. She directly pressed her body behind the soldiers who formed the human wall and helped them push the shield wall forward together.
Gradually, the panicked reaction of the human side finally worked, and the soldiers took back the city gate. The burning wights and several burning wooden shields were pushed out of the gate.
"Close the gate quickly!"
Finally, the gate was regained. Without saying a word, the second row of soldiers stepped on the people in the front row and turned over the shield wall, pulling the gate back from the opening.
After much effort, the gate was finally closed again and the bolt was lowered.
Fortunately, the soldiers on the tower on the wall used rockets and throwing kerosene barrels to block the wights behind, otherwise if more wights poured into the gate, the consequences would be disastrous.
Seeing the gate closed, everyone was panting and turned to look at Catelyn who issued the order to open the gate.
Even Brienne couldn't help looking over.
But Lady Catelyn ignored these looks. She was holding an unconscious boy and shedding tears of blood.
Harwin then announced loudly: "It's Rickon. The person you just saved is Rickon Stark of Winterfell!"
But only a few people responded to Harwin's loud announcement, and no one cheered.
The city gate became deserted, and only the noisy trumpets and shouts of killing on the top of the city wall rang in the ears.
At this time, the commander shouted: "Madam, take the young master back to the castle!" As he said, he issued an order, "You guys, clean the city gate, collect these corpses and throw them out from the city wall!"
No one looked at Brienne, but she felt her face was very hot, and she had a complex emotion of honor and guilt in her heart.
From the results, they opened the city gate to save Rickon and a dozen lives, which was a great thing.
But in the situation just now, if one thing happened, the lives of the whole city
It must be said that this is really an extremely critical situation. If the city gate is lost, the thousands of defenders in the castle will have to face tens of thousands of corpses. In a close fight with them, Winterfell has no chance of winning.
Not long after, Caitlin and her party and the rescued people were taken into the inner city.
But no one took them into the city main hall.
Only Maggie Mormont received them outside.
After finding out that the rescued people were Mandalay knights, individual sailors, and even Aly Karstark, but there was no useful information, Mei Ji handed them over to the servants of the castle, and then dealt with them. Caitlin said: "Madam, the White Walkers are sieging the city and it is dangerous outside. I will send you back to your room."
As he spoke, he quietly arranged for a knight to pick out Aly Karstark from the crowd: "Miss Aly, please wait here while I go in and inform the adults."
The castle is very lively now, with messengers from various princes coming and going, and knights from various families hurriedly appearing from the hall and leaving in a hurry.
At this time, the city wall had come into contact with the zombie tide, and the siege had begun.
The ghouls don't pay attention to things like signing a battle, arranging troops, and surrounding but not attacking. When their army approaches the castle, they can't help but say "attack".
The shouting of killing outside was so loud that it could be heard even in the main castle.
Catelyn couldn't even enter the city lord's hall, and suddenly felt that her daughter Sansa was stranger than ever before: "Don't she even look at her brother, Sansa?"
Ms. Meggie saw Caitlin glaring at her ferociously and looked at Harwin blankly.
Harwin translated for her awkwardly.
Ms. Meggie explained: "Madam, Miss Sansa, Duke Edmure, Lord Royce, and Ser Lyn are directing the battle and cannot get away."
Caitlin couldn't help but glance at the brightly lit hall: "I want to go in."
Harwin had no choice but to translate.
"Madam," Ms. Meggie looked at the child in her arms, "Rickon is unconscious. The first priority is to ask the maester to help him take a look at him. Don't let him get hurt or sick."
"Isn't the maester in the hall?"
"There are no maesters in Winterfell right now, madam, there are only maesters who are with the army." Meggie explained, "I will take you back to your room and immediately go to the army to find a maester for Rickon."
At this time.
A messenger hurriedly ran past, panting: "Report, Dongcheng, direction of Dongcheng——"
Seeing that the messenger was about to fall, Mei Ji didn't care about Caitlin in front of her, and hurriedly reached out to help him. Looking at the other person's appearance, it was obvious that there was an urgent military situation: "What happened to Dongcheng?"
“The Greyjoy Army—” the messenger gasped, which startled Meggie. “They asked the defenders of East City to go to Winter Town to help guard the town’s ring wall. They were willing to fight together, but they asked for Ironborn troops take over the defense of the castle's east gate."
Meiji breathed a sigh of relief, then frowned: "This is no small matter, go in and report it!" The east gate is part of the main gatehouse, located on the east side of the inner city wall, leading to the King's Gate and King's Avenue on the outer wall, and then to Stretching out is the winter town outside Winterfell.
Aegon said on behalf of the royal family that the civilians in the winter towns must be defended, so the defense of Winterfell must take into account the townspeople outside the city.
Because there is no strong voice in Winterfell to control the situation, the defending garrison can be regarded as doing its own thing. Asha is willing to obey the royal order to help defend the town, but she is worried that the castle garrison of Winterfell will destroy the army outside the castle and The commoners remained outside the castle, closing the east gate.
"Madam, you have also seen it. Now Winterfell needs Miss Sansa to focus on defending the city." Meggie spread her hands apologetically and said, "And with Lord Edmure and the others beside the lady, Madam, you You can rest assured.”
Caitlin looked at the door of the hall where people were coming and going, and finally stopped asking to go in: "I'll take Rickon back to his room first, and find him a bachelor as soon as possible."
Hearing this, Mei Ji breathed a sigh of relief: "Madam, I'll go look for you immediately."
Caitlin and her party then carried Rickon to the main castle room.
Brienne noticed a tall woman following her: "Who are you?"
"Osha. Bran Stark asked me to take care of Rickon and stay with him until I die." The tall woman said in a strange voice, not like a Westeros person. "The boy's soul got into the body of the direwolf. , his wolf may die and his soul will be hurt.”
Seeing that Catelyn had walked away quickly, Brienne's eyes widened when she heard what she said, and she followed her and said, "Please tell the lady clearly later."
"Yes." The woman nodded and followed suit in large strides.
At this moment, a strange whistling sound suddenly came from the sky.
Brienne turned around and saw a strange black sphere falling from the sky.
The White Walkers actually have something like a trebuchet and are throwing boulders at the castle?
But when the sphere got closer, Brienne's expression changed drastically.
Well, what kind of boulder is that? It's clearly a group of corpses.
This horrifying sight made Brienne pull out her sword with a sudden noise and shouted: "Be careful, madam, be careful!"
Looking at the direction of the landing point, it was in the direction that Caitlin was walking quickly.
With a loud bang, the ball landed in the courtyard near a tower of the castle, instantly causing a burst of exclamations and shouts, and the barking of dogs filled the sky.
It seemed that it had landed in a certain courtyard occupied by the army.
Cries of death and screams instantly erupted inside the castle.
Caitlin was startled by the sound, and stopped in front of the courtyard with Rickon in her arms, where she was stunned for a moment.
With quick eyes and quick hands, Harwin picked up Caitlin and turned around to another courtyard where she could go upstairs.
Brienne finally followed, heard the sound of fighting in the courtyard, and looked in the direction of Caitlin. After all, she and the sergeants each had their own duties, so she gritted her teeth, turned around, and followed closely.
At this time, the tall woman Osha followed Brienne's footsteps holding two torches. She handed a torch to Brienne and said in a low voice: "To deal with them, this thing is better than a sword. "
Brienne subconsciously took the torch and looked at its shape. She found that the torch was hung in the castle for lighting in the courtyards and corridors. She didn't know where the other party took it from.
The shouts and screams in the courtyard over there were still going on, and there was another strange sound above their heads.
Another huge mass of wights was thrown over the Winterfell castle.
Brienne realized that the opponent should only have one trebuchet, and she didn't know whether to be grateful or not.
When the second ghoul group fell, the castle had already received a response from the sergeants. They held their torches high and ran from the bridge between the corridor and the castle tower to the landing point of the ghoul group.
In the chaos, they relied on their familiarity with the castle to avoid the corpses coming from the sky and found their way back to Caitlin's room.
While running quickly on the bridge, I could see flames rising in several courtyards and hear shouts of death there.
Although Brienne has been in the army, she has never actually been on the battlefield. She only relies on her personal education and understanding. She knows that the most important thing at this time is not to rush to the battlefield in a moment of passion, but to do their own thing. Do your own thing well.
When they escorted Caitlin back to the room, as soon as the front foot arrived, a wave of northerners came from the direction of the city main hall. The leader was a knight of the Glover family: "Miss Brienne, We were ordered to protect Lady Catelyn and Master Rickon. How are they doing?"
"Madam and young master are in the room, please guard the door with me."
"good."
Here, various sounds from the city walls and courtyards can still be heard. The soldiers, including Brienne, had nervous palms sweating.
From time to time, soldiers holding torches could be seen walking through the castle, shouting "Where are they?" "Kill them!" and the like.
The door creaked open, and Harwin asked: "Where is the maester? Is he not here yet?"
Osha asked, "How's Rickon?"
Harwin looked at Brienne strangely: "Who is she?"
Brienne explained: "She is Osha, and Bran Stark asked her to protect Rickon."
A hoarse voice came from the room: "Bran?"
This confusing conversation left Brienne unable to react for a moment.
Harwin was also puzzled, but he still brought Osha into the room.
The door closed again.
Brienne's ears were sharp and she heard Harwin ask: "My lady asked you, did you just say Bran?"
"Yes," Osha replied, "Bran Stark, Rickon's brother."
"Where is he?"
"He went north to find the old gods."
"What did you say, what do you mean?"
"I just went to the north to find the old gods. The boy who can prophesy, Jojian, said that he has some kind of talent."
"What?"
Brienne suddenly stopped midway through asking a question she didn't understand.
The boy's screams filled the room: "No!"
It sounds like Master Rickon is awake.
But the sound was wrong.
There seemed to be a struggle inside, and the boy screamed: "Let me go!"
Brienne heard the sobs in Lady Catelyn's peculiar voice.
The room gradually fell silent.
When the door opened again, Lady Catelyn appeared with Osha and Harwin.
Brienne and the soldiers standing guard at the door stood up straight for a moment.
Caitlin had no time to see them and only said: "Let her go over there with me and continue talking about Bran."
The three of them then walked to the wind outlet of the bridge in front of the main castle, and only Harwin was allowed to listen as an interpreter.
But things are happening one after another, and this is definitely not a good time to whisper.
The sound coming from the city wall was not far away. The sound of trumpets and drums had not stopped since the beginning of the war. The flames on the city wall reflected red in the sky in the southeast and south directions, and most of the night was covered by the snowstorm. The cold wind was blowing, the snow was flying, and the smoke was filling the air. Snow flakes and thick smoke mixed with the burning smell spread into the castle from the direction of the city wall.
There were enough accidents today, but they were not over yet. The soldiers passing by below the courtyard chasing the corpses falling from the sky suddenly shouted: "Who is it!"
"A child climbed through the window and jumped off the building!"
"The people above, hurry into the house and catch him!"
"Now is not the time for children to act willfully!"
Brienne and Knight Glover at the door were shocked when they heard this. They had no time to ask for instructions and directly opened the door.
But they saw that the window in the room was wide open, and Rickon was sitting astride Lady Catelyn's window, with his back to Brienne and Knight Glover at the door.
"No!" Brienne yelled.
But the boy jumped down without hesitation.
Brienne rushed forward, but she only saw the boy stand up in the courtyard downstairs from the window, and ran in a certain direction without looking back. Brienne couldn't believe that a six-year-old boy was so agile. Wolf.
Brienne thought he was frightened and shouted at his back: "Rickon, don't be afraid, we are Stark's people!"
But this sentence failed to stop him.
Outside the window of the room, along the other side of the courtyard, three guards holding torches asked in a panic: "What's going on, Rickon? Is that kid Rickon Stark? Damn it, there are corpses in that direction!"
Brienne didn't care to answer, stretched her fingers anxiously and shouted: "He is going in that direction, go and protect him!"
Brienne herself was leaning out of the window and jumping in to catch up.
But there were chaotic footsteps behind them. It was Mrs. Caitlin who heard the noise and ran all the way.
Seeing the ferocious face full of a mother's anxious look, Brienne's heart throbbed, and without hesitation, she shouted: "I'll chase him back." After saying that, she jumped directly from the window.
With a loud bang, Brienne, who was wearing mail and steel armor inside, fell dizzy from the height of only two and a half of her height.
Fortunately, she was thick-skinned and thickly dressed, so she was not hurt. At the moment, she didn't care to say anything more and chased in the direction where Rickon ran away.
Brienne was tall and strong, and her pace quickly caught up with the soldiers in front of her who were holding torches and found Rickon jumping out of the window, and then followed her orders: "Did you see anyone?"
Brienne noticed the trout badges on them and realized that they were soldiers of the Tully family. No wonder they followed her orders without hesitation.
One of them asked, "Is that really a boy? He ran so fast!"
"He went into that yard."
Brienne was so anxious that she was furious: "Catch up!" She quickly passed the three people and took the lead to turn around the blind spot of the castle bridge pillars and scanned the other courtyard separated by the pillars.
She was anxious to find someone, but she didn't pay attention to the enemy attack. With a whoosh, a black shadow rushed over and bit her.
It was a wight.
Brienne's heart was falling, not because of the wight that rushed over, but because she didn't see Rickon's figure, nor did she hear the boy's scream, but there was a wight here.
With a bang, Brienne's tall body collided with the wight that rushed over and hit her in the chest.
The ghost was hard, like a stone. It rushed to Brienne's right half and tore it, and Brienne's woolen coat was torn apart. Brienne was familiar with fighting, and her left hand directly grabbed the ghost and wanted to pull it off her body.
She grabbed the ghost with her hand, and the cold air came from her palms wearing gloves. For a moment, it was as if she had grabbed a piece of ice.
Brienne's panicked strength was amazing. She pulled and tugged, and actually tore the ghost in half.
The Tully guards who were holding torches to support her were stunned by her terrifying strength and stood there with their eyes wide open for a while.
Brienne was also shocked by her own strength, but she quickly judged that this should be the ghost's spine broken when it fell from the sky, and the bones had been broken long ago, so she was directly torn apart by her force. But there was no time to explain, she shouted: "Burn it to death!"
The guard reacted to the roar and quickly waved the torch to ignite the upper body of the ghost in Brienne's hand.
The flames burst up.
Brienne quickly threw the ghost away, and the lower body of the ghost wrapped around her right body became weak as the flames ignited, and was quickly pulled down by the guards.
"There!"
At this moment, someone shouted from the bridge above them: "Brienne, Master Rickon is over there, and a wight is chasing him! Go!" It was Harwin's voice.
Brienne didn't care about anything at the moment, and ran in the direction of Harwin's finger.
Sure enough, after crossing another bridge pillar, Brienne saw a thin figure running through the scorched earth at the edge of the castle's godswood, and behind it, a dark ghost was chasing the thin figure.
Brienne ran as fast as she could.
With big strides.
Suddenly, she caught a glimpse of an unextinguished torch in front of a corpse.
Brienne reacted quickly, picked up the torch directly, felt the weight, and threw it at the wight chasing Rickon without hesitation.
The torch drew a flaming meteor above the scorched earth of the godswood, and landed accurately on the ghost.
Unfortunately, the torch only touched it and failed to ignite.
But the flying torch caught Rickon's attention.
He stopped and turned to look in Brienne's direction.
At this glance, Brienne's blood ran cold, and her running strength weakened for a moment, and she almost fell to the ground.
